DownStream Technologies Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary

Finishes record sales year and kicks off year-long celebration with new products, special pricing and thanks to customers

Marlborough, Mass – February 13, 2012 – DownStream Technologies, LLC today announced record sales results for 2011 and kicked off a year-long celebration of their 10th Anniversary. The company plans on launching new products and initiatives and offer special pricing on products and bundles as a thanks to their loyal customer base for the confidence it has placed in the company.

“DownStream has worked extremely hard to create a unique partnership with our user community. That partnership keeps us focused on developing and delivering products that fit their needs, not ours,” said Rick Almeida, one of DownStream’s founders. “We work closely and rely heavily on them for product improvement input, feedback and beta-testing,” he added.

Founded in January 2002, the privately-held company has produced many successive years of growth and expansion—including record sales years in both 2010 and 2011—and has delivered on its commitment to developing industry-leading software by regularly rolling out new releases of CAM350® and Blue-Print-PCB®.

2011 Record Sales Year

DownStream finished a second consecutive year of record-breaking sales. The company experienced a two-year combined growth of 24% over 2009 results, achieving its highest sales level to date in 2011. Several factors contributed to the outstanding sales performance including strong demand for their core CAM350 product in Asia, as well as a dramatic increase in their custom software development program for BluePrint-PCB.  Asian revenues grew 34.5% over 2010 as more Chinese-based fabrication facilities came on line in 2011. Consulting sales climbed 54% over 2010 as more large multi-national organizations have standardized on BluePrint-PCB.

“Our customers continue to push the envelope trying to reduce their documentation cycles in order to gain efficiencies in engineering. They also realize that using experienced Design Engineers to produce documentation does not make financial sense and that these valuable resources are better utilized in conceptualizing and delivering new products to the marketplace,” said Almeida.

When asked about growth in Asia Almeida offered, “In the early 2000s when North American and European fabrication moved offshore to Korea and Taiwan, we saw similar product sales and growth. We are seeing the same event cycle again as fabrication moves from Korea and Taiwan into China.

These companies are tooling their CAM Engineering departments and require software that is powerful enough to do the job without breaking the bank. They also can’t afford to spend months training on cumbersome software solutions. CAM350 offers a very easy-to-use interface, much shorter learning curve combined with the functionality they need.”

DownStream also cites strong profit earnings for 2010 and 2011 as the company reports a 30.4% EBITA for both 2010 and 2011.

DownStream Technologies 10 Year Milestones

Seizing the Opportunity – When Innoveda decided to stop all development and support for CAM350®, Rick Almeida and Joe Clark realized there was an opportunity and purchased a licensing agreement for the software. They launched DownStream Technologies in January 2002.

Client Expansion and Retention – DownStream started with no customers. Today, the company boasts over 1,000 customer companies with an estimated 7,000 users.

Ground Breaking New Products - In 2005, DownStream released BluePrint-PCB, the first ever documentation authoring tool specifically developed for the PCB market and in 2009 received a US Patent for the technology in the product.

A Decade of Stability – In ten years, the company has survived historically difficult economic times without having to downsize and continues a commitment to R&D.

Industry Leaders – DownStream has always taken a leadership role within the PCB industry and was one of the Founding Members of the IPC-2581 Consortium, a group developed to accelerate the adoption of IPC-2581 as an open and neutrally maintained global standard for data transfer in the PCB industry.

Product Acceptance – Over the past ten years, many large, multi-national companies including Qualcomm and Waters Corporation have standardized on DownStream products.

Consulting Services – DownStream realized quickly that Consulting Services and Custom Development would be important in this marketplace and has delivered dozens of custom projects since its founding.

Worldwide Solutions – To be successful in today’s competitive environment, a company must be able to deliver their products around the world. DownStream is committed to a global Value Added Reseller (VAR) distribution channel allowing their products to be available in 45 countries.
