Featured in this release is DownStream’s new Design Analyzer
– a new method to analyze the contents and complexity of a PCB
design against the capabilities of the PCB fabricator.
“The Design Analyzer tool is vital in PCB post processing as it helps the board designer compare the
design against the capabilities of the PCB fabricator, minimizing any risk and allowing for the most economical fabrication process,”
said Rick Almeida, one of the founders of DownStream. “By analyzing the design against the PCB design features users can optimize
the design for the best possible fabrication run while still in engineering, saving time by helping to identify the appropriate
fabricator for the job while maintaining quality and design integrity,” he added.
Additional Highlights and Features in Version10.5
Paste Mask Analysis – Streams RC has been enhanced to now include paste mask analysis. This allows designs
to be checked during design stage for proper inclusion and sizing of paste masks. The analysis includes checks for missing, extra,
and improperly sized Paste Masks. The following checks are available for the Paste Mask layer type: (1) Paste Mask on Through-hole
Pads, (2) Missing Paste Mask on SMD parts, (3) Paste Mask with no Solder Mask opening, and (4) Paste Mask to Copper
annular ring check.
BluePrint PCB Panel Integration – The interface with BluePrint-PCB has been improved to allow the passing
of tooling and breakout tab drills to be passed into CAM350. Fiducials, if added in BluePrint, are also passed along. The user
can then choose to output the completed panel from CAM350 using Gerber or ODB++ outputs. They can also include this information
in a Release Package containing all the deliverable required to manufacture the design.
Large Memory Access – Large Address Aware has been incorporated in CAM350. The amount of memory
available to CAM350 goes to 4GB on 64 bit machines. This allows two times as much memory to be available for processing
designs through CAM350 than in the past.
DXF Improvements – Both the import and the export modules in CAM350 have been updated to support newer releases of AutoCAD.
Streams RC Update – Copper Slivers, Mask Sliver, Track to Pad and Track to Track analysis have been updated for
performance and accuracy. Drill to copper checks now allow for the exclusion of indicator pads to limit the number of errors reported to the
user. “Pads without Drills” has been updated to ignore non circular pads in the same location, which has caused false positives in the past.
Over 30 software corrections have been made to previously existing functionality, further improving
upon CAM350’s quality and reliability.
CAM350 Release 10 is the third major release
of the software from DownStream Technologies in just five years.
Part of the enhancements to CAM350 focus on continued
improvement in the verification of design data before commitment
to PCB fabrication, while other updates bring new functionality
and improved usability.
