Advisory: Keyless Licensing Troubleshooting Guide
for CAM350 8.0 or Later

Problem: CAM350 installation using a Keyless license is starting up in Demo Mode.

NOTE: Keyless Licensing is NOT Network Licensing

Licensing Problems

1. Start CAM350 and select FILE | SETUP | LICENSING

In the box labeled “Serial Number” you should see a “Default HOST ID” followed by your HOST ID. The HOST ID is a 12 digit string of characters. If you see more than one string of characters, only pay attention to the first one.

2. License File Must be in CAM350 Folder.

Make sure the license is in the correct folder. The license.dat file must be in the same folder as camnt95.exe. In v 8.6 the correct default location is c:\program files\downstreamtech\cam350_8.6\license.dat.

3. Make Sure the License File is Named "license.dat"

If the license file is not named license.dat, then cam350 will ignore it. Make sure windows is set to show full file extensions. To check this you can look at the files in the folder and see if they have file extensions (camnt95.exe rather than just camnt95). You can change this in most versions of windows by selecting TOOLS | FOLDER OPTIONS | NEW and uncheck “Hide file extensions for known types”.

4. If the License was Downloaded from the Web, Make Sure it was Saved as text, NOT HTML.

To do this open your license.dat file in a text editor (like Notepad) and make sure the first line is a FEATURE line. If you see html code either edit it out of the file or download your license file again.

5. Make Sure the License File has Not Expired.

Keyless licenses are normally cut for 2 years. Again, you can check this by opening your license.dat file in a text editor (like Notepad) and reading the first FEATURE line. The Date in the line would be in a date-month-year format (1-jan-2006 for example). Keep the text editor open for the next few checks as well.

6. Make Sure the HOST ID in the File Matches what FILE | SETUP | LICENSING reports.

Somewhere in each FEATURE argument there will appear the string “HOSTID=”. This should be the same number that appears in your cam350 licensing windows. If it does not, please send a copy of the license file to support@downstreamtech.com

7. Make Sure this is a Keyless License

In the license file, make sure the first line is a FEATURE line. If it is not, please send a copy of the license file to support@downstreamtech.com

8. Make Sure this is NOT a Demo License

On the first FEATURE line, if you see FEATURE CAM350-SHAREWARE you have a Shareware Demo license. Check your software package for a diskette; it should have your license on it. Copy the license to the CAM350 folder (see Step 3 part 2 above).

9. Make Sure the License File is for the Version of Software you are Trying to Run.

On the FEATURE line right before the date is a version number. This number should be 8.0. An 8.0 license will run any 8.x release.
