DownStream Technologies Announces BluePrint Foundations™

New Product Configuration and Price Structure Continues to Expand the Mainstream PCB Documentation Market.

Marlborough, Mass – November 1, 2006 – DownStream Technologies, LLC today announced a new configuration and price structure for their revolutionary PCB Documentation product BluePrint for PCBs™. Named BluePrint Foundations™, it is built from the same core technology as BluePrint-PCB, allowing users to quickly create comprehensive, electronic PCB fabrication and assembly instructions, and it is more closely aligned in price to appeal to PCB Designers who currently use PADS®, OrCAD® and CADStar® PCB layout products.

“The market demand for BluePrint has so far surpassed our wildest expectations. BluePrint Foundations will allow us to further expand the market by providing a solution to PCB layout designers who may be on a more restricted budget but still require comprehensive documentation to build their products,” said Rick Almeida, a founder of DownStream Technologies. “BluePrint Foundations provides a customizable solution, as well as a path for adding additional functionality as our customer’s technical and financial conditions evolve. The product is modular and can be incrementally upgraded at any time,” he added.

Revolutionizing PCB Documentation Creation

With the introduction of BluePrint for PCBs™ in 2005, and BluePrint Foundations™ today, DownStream Technologies has revolutionized the way PCB Fabrication, Assembly, Panel and Rework documentation is created. It also allows PCB Designers to create more comprehensive and detailed documentation making manufacturing mistakes less likely to occur. BluePrint Foundations is 100% compatible with BluePrint-PCB and allows users to mix and match configurations to meet their needs. Some features include:

In contrast, BluePrint uses the available PCB design intelligence to automatically create and link unlimited PCB views and details resulting in a more detailed and accurate documentation package in a much shorter timeframe. Documentation packages created with BluePrint contain all the data necessary to build, view and archive the final product anywhere, anytime. Customers using BluePrint can expect to save as much as 60%-80% off the PCB documentation creation process — even more when engineering change orders (ECOs) are required.

  • Unlimited PCB Views – Allows any number of PCB views on a single drawing sheet without the typical constraints associated with CAD systems. Also allows individual scaling and display settings to be defined for each instance.
  • Hyperlinking – Allows users to create hyperlinks between notes and details, details and parts list items or between any two document elements creating live and interactive documentation that provides information as opposed to searching for it. In addition hyperlinks can be added that link to URLs, email addresses, external files, and multi-media files such as digital photos and video to better articulate critical manufacturing instructions.
  • Automatic ECO Updates – Supports an instant ECO function that refreshes all views of the PCB CAD data in the documentation package whenever the source PCB CAD file is updated greatly, reducing the amount of time needed to perform PCB artwork ECOs.
  • Full Word Processing with Spell Check – Contains full word processing capabilities with spell checking, font, and paragraph formatting. Also creates documents in local languages such as Italian, German, Japanese, English, etc.
  • Exotic File Importation – Data from other Windows® applications can be imported and used in the BluePrint documentation package including PDF, RS274X, DXF, JPEG, GIF, TIF, BMP. The clipboard function also allows cutting and pasting with other applications including text and raster graphics.
  • Web Publisher – In addition to hard copy output, BluePrint can export the entire documentation package to HTML which can then be shared and viewed for free over the internet via Internet Explorer.
